A little white wine vinegar in the water (cuts through the grease) and a chamois cloth gets rid of the smears - did my own that way only yesterday!

Hi Janet,
I use my steam cleaner, it doesn't leave any residue so the windows sparkle. Also use a microfibre cloth damp and paper towels to dry if i am in a rush and can't wait for the steamer to heat up.

Use white vinegar in warm water, it cuts the grease and leaves a lovely shine. A tea towel is good to remove any water left behind too :-)

I only use the tiniest drop of Fairy washing up liquid in very hot water then I rinse it off with clean hot water using a blade.

Works every time!

Old fasioned windowlene is good. Wipe on with one cloth in one direction only and then clean with another in the opposite direction. I find that works for me. Also NilGlass is a good clear one to try.

I ignore my windows ... eeek! Actually, it's the truth. We've been in our home for about 9 months now and I've never washed the inside of the windows. Hubs uses they power washer on the outside and they come nicely clean. If I see a smudge I'll whisk it away with windex & paper towel.

Ah ha ha ha! Caroline's comment is awesome.

As and when I clean windows outside, I use ordinary malt vinegar in warm water to wash. I then use scrumpled newspaper to dry them and polish. My mum used this method.

A solution of washing up liquid with a splash of white vinegar, and the magic utensil - a rubber bladed squeegee! It wipes off water and yuck, but it does leave streaks, which I polish off with a scrap of old cotton towelling (actually, it was a nappy, but towelling sounds better!)

Good luck!

Autoglym - Fast Glass, generally used for cars but does a fab job on my windows!

I'll have to try some of these tips. I have nineteen windows in the conservatory alone to clean. I hate it and tend to just leave the blinds down in there a lot. Like you say, it's looks ok until the sun shines through. xx Jenny xx

I noticed this post while doing the blog hop and just had to share my best item for cleaning your windows. You will be totally astonished at this Janet, just like I was. My darling MIL gave me a little package which contained an E CLOTH. You get two clothes, 1 for washing 1 for polishing. You use no detergents just plain old water! My windows have NEVER been this clean. You can get them at T-K Max and they are only £2.99, do try them Janet.
